Matt was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. After completing his undergraduate studies at the US Naval Academy in 2008, Matt served five years in the Marine Corps as a logistician, deploying twice to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. Upon completing his active duty commitment, Matt began his transition into civilian life by spending some years guiding canyoneering trips in the quiet, remote desert of Southern Utah. Curious to learn more about relationships, communication, family systems, and the human experience, Matt turned toward graduate school, which prompted his move to Eugene, Oregon.
Upon completion of his graduate studies in counseling, Matt took a job in a record store and has been there ever since. Connecting people with the music they love and expanding their interests to new artists is a daily joy for him. In addition to work, he seeks ways to continue serving after his military service. This has included being a member of the Tillman Scholar community, serving as a board member on the Global War on Terror Memorial Foundation, serving as a board member and camp counselor for a children's grief support organization named Courageous Kids, and now, volunteering to help with logistics for Business For America. Matt hopes to continue to be of service to his community and country and to continue working toward a more perfect Union through inclusion, access, justice, and equity for all.
