Steve is the owner of JustLaws, a social impact law firm that helps small businesses and nonprofit institutions successfully navigate barriers and challenges from state and local government. He is also the immediate past board chair of the Sustainable Business Network of Greater Philadelphia. As chair of SBN’s Policy Committee, Steve designed and led SBN’s successful Good Economy Challenge, securing strong support for SBN’s legislative agenda amongst candidates for Mayor and City Council in the 2015 Philadelphia primary election.
Prior to starting JustLaws in 2012, Steve spent twelve years at the Philadelphia City Council where he drafted many groundbreaking bills, including laws combating predatory lending and gun violence, and laws promoting sustainability, neighborhood quality of life, and worker rights.
Steve also has over thirty years experience leading successful grassroots legislative advocacy campaigns on the local, state and national levels in the areas of gun violence prevention and promoting U.S. leadership to resolve the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. He earned his B.A. in political science from Yale University and J.D. from Boston University School of Law.
