Equip the Future Workforce

Help students build the civic, interpersonal, and leadership skills modern employers need

Companies play a vital role in shaping the education ecosystem to ensure graduates arrive workforce-ready—not only with technical skills, but with the ability to listen, disagree constructively, and lead. By partnering with schools, businesses can help prepare graduates to succeed in the workplace and participate meaningfully in civic life.

  • Partner with K–12 schools to support curricula and programs that teach constructive dialogue, media literacy, teamwork, and civic engagement early and consistently.
  • Work with universities and business schools to modernize courses, sponsor applied projects, and provide experiential opportunities that develop bridging skills.
  • Update recruitment and hiring practices to value civic, interpersonal, and collaborative skills—not just technical credentials.

Businesses that prioritize civic and interpersonal skills aren’t just preparing employees—they’re preparing the leaders and collaborators our workplaces and communities need. Be part of shaping the future of work and society.

Resources to Get You Started

Tools, tips, and frameworks to support implementation, no matter your starting point.

The Dialogue Project at Duke

The Dialogue Project at Duke University focuses on the essential role business leaders can play in improving dialogue and reducing polarization. Through research and real-world exploration, it examines how companies can foster constructive disagreement and collaboration across differences. The project equips business leaders with insights they can apply inside their companies and in their broader civic roles. It also works across Duke’s schools — including business, public policy, and undergraduate programs — to expand education in dialogue, critical thinking, and cross-sector leadership. The goal: prepare current and future leaders to strengthen connection, trust, and problem-solving in an increasingly divided environment.
