MLK Day: The Time Is Always Right to Do What Is Right

Today marks a day not of celebration, but of action and service. This Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a reminder to Americans that we are all equal under the Constitution — including the equal right to vote — but the promise of equal rights has yet to be realized. Our shared economic prosperity and individual liberty depend on a truly representative democracy, as Dr. King described in his dream of a more equal America.

The business community has a moral and economic duty to help ensure that our employees, customers, and stakeholders can vote without undue barriers, especially in historically disadvantaged communities. Passage of voting rights legislation, including the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, is essential for this country's social cohesion and continued economic competitiveness.

At Business for America, we continue to mobilize businesses to advance equal voting rights, election integrity, and political reforms to build a democracy and economy that work for all of the American people. We hope you will join us.

“There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular, but he must take it because conscience tells him it is right.”
― Martin Luther King Jr.
