All Hands on Deck: ECOS Donates Disinfectant Cleaner to Elections Offices throughout Washington State

Donation part of Business for America’s Operation Vote Safe initiative mobilizing businesses to provide necessary resources and supplies to elections officials to help make the election safer and more secure

LACEY, WA (October 28, 2020) —Businesses statewide are stepping up to help ensure the 2020 general election is safe and secure for all Washingtonians.

ECOS®, the maker of plant-powered cleaning products, is donating its new One-Step Disinfectant Cleaner to elections offices across Washington state to help protect election workers and voters during the COVID-19 pandemic as a part of Business for America’s Operation Vote Safe initiative.

Because ECOS’s disinfectant cleaner uses hydrogen peroxide to kill 99.9% of viruses and bacteria, it creates no harsh fumes or volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that can be toxic, especially to people with lung sensitivities such as asthma.

“It’s important to us to help protect the health of election workers because what they do is so essential to the integrity of our democratic process,” said Kelly Vlahakis-Hanks, president and CEO of ECOS. “Our mission for over 50 years has been to protect the health of people and our planet. We have a facility in Lacey, Washington, and we want our employees, the people of Washington, and all the citizens of our country to be able participate in the democratic process safely and securely.” More than 4.72 million people are registered to vote in Washington state. Though Washington is a 100% vote-by-mail state, county elections offices and voting centers are open throughout the 18-day voting period for people to register to vote, receive a replacement ballot, use an assistive voting unit, and more.

“The safety of our voters and election workers is paramount this year, especially as we prepare for what may be a record turnout Nov. 3,” said Secretary of State Kim Wyman, Washington’s chief elections officer. “It’s encouraging to see businesses and election officials unite to ensure nothing stands in the way of people’s ability to safely vote this fall. We appreciate ECOS’s support in helping state and local election officials safely serve our voters. Voters across Washington can feel confident knowing their election officials are taking steps to provide for their safety.”

Nonprofit Business for America is uniting and mobilizing civic-minded businesses through a nonpartisan initiative to support election integrity and voter accessibility by donating PPE, equipment, and related supplies to states and counties across the country.

“Washington businesses want their employees and customers to be able to vote safely and to have confidence in the results,” said Sarah Bonk, founder and CEO of Business for America, the only national business organization focused exclusively on mobilizing businesses to advocate for election integrity. “We can't let the failure of Congress to provide adequate resources lead to a chaotic election.”
